After I stepped on the original charger that came with my shuffle I was at a loss. Although it may be small, the adapter gets the job done perfectly and affordably.Great buy. This little thing is perfect. All of a sudden I was unable to charge my ipod or transfer songs.
I plugged it into my 2008 15in MacBook Pro, and I instantly received a message onscreen saying a USB port was drawing too much power and would be disabled. My original dock's plug broke, so I bought this instead of Apple's $20 replacement. I unplugged it and threw it away.
Just as easy as Apple's dock. Couldn't be happier.Notes: Synch'd my 2nd Gen. At less than $3 to buy and ship, this product synch's and charges my Shuffle without fail (so far) as well as the official $29 dock ever did, and possibly charges faster. Simply plugged it in, and 1 second later the drivers (either preloaded on the OS or from the iTunes install) were installed and my Shuffle was synching and charging. Perfect replacement for my 2nd Gen. Shuffle's dock (which broke). Shuffle with iTunes 8.1.1.10 on Windows 7 64-bit.
.At this point, I feel I have gotten my five or so dollars' worth in a sense, but also I don't feel as though I accomplished what I set out to do--get a charger that would work as expected for a reasonable life-span.I'm sure if I emailed Vortex again, they might well send another replacement--again, they were /lovely by email--but I also suspect a high rate of failure on these chargers, and feel that it is a matter of conscience to leave this review for all those who had the same problems, /didn't write, asking for a replacement, and just swallowed their $5 and their frustration.(that said, I wouldn't be shocked if almost all chargers in this price range had an equal rate of failure.).Worth $5 if you don't mind taking your chances, and can drum up the mettle to write an email asking for a replacement, shipped free-of-charge, if you get a half-broken one.Update: Vortex refunded the full amount, with, again, lovely emails. At this rate, even though one might expect some level of failure based on other reviews and the price, based on their responsiveness, and that /other reviews have this product working just fine after many months, I'd say give it a chance--just be prepared to contact Vortex if you get one that doesn't work. Upon receipt, the charger only worked when I wobbled it around in the port until I found the perfect angle.and then if I accidentally bumped the computer too hard, it would disconnect--same results on three different ports.I emailed Vortex, and got a lovely email and a replacement shipped free-of-charge, which arrived in just a few days, but the replacement had the exact same problems. Now that's class.
I absolutely love it and I would recommend it to anyone who is need of a replacement charger. It works perfectly with my I-pod shuffle and charges it every time without failure. I ordered this product about 7 or 8 months ago because my original charger had broken after I stepped on it. From the moment it arrived (it arrived even before it was supposed to) I have had nothing but good things to say. It syncs well and charges my I-pod faster than the original charger.
